Building Forward Better
Under the theme ‘Building Forward Better,’ the congress aims to discuss bold, innovative ideas and strategies needed for SSF to rebalance, rebuild and revitalize, following the devastating impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic, natural disasters and climate change, set amidst the current and emerging challenges affecting their livelihoods and wellbeing. Building forward is also about being proactive and progressive in situating SSF in Asia-Pacific in a way that will accelerate their engagement in the global discourse about sustainable development, and help them be in a position to contribute to achieving SDGs.
Specifically, the congress will be organized around six main topics:

Adjusting the GENDER lens
Adjusting the FOOD lens
Adjusting the GOVERNANCE lens
Adjusting the FINANCIAL lens
Adjusting the RESEARCH lens
The 4WSFC Asia-Pacific is co-hosted by Tokai University and TBTI Japan, in partnership with Shizuoka City, TBTI Global with support from the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations and other key organizations.

CONGRESS FORMAT & REGISTRATION
Registration for the 4WSFC-Asia Pacific virtual conference is now closed.
The 4WSFC-Asia Pacific is a virtual congress. Only the six plenary sessions will have a hybrid format. All other sessions will be online.
How to attend the sessions
For all participants
(1) INSTALL ZOOM DESKTOP APPLICATION
Before the congress, all congress participants need to download and install the 'Zoom Client for Meetings' desktop application: https://zoom.us/download.
(2) ENSURE YOU HAVE A TICKET
a) If you are an attendee and have registered before April 30, you already have a ticket, which you secured through your Zoom account. Your ticket confirmation that was sent to your email should look similar to this.
b) If you are an attendee who has received a special link to register, follow these steps*:
* when you're asked to sign into/log into a Zoom account, make sure the email address you are using for Zoom login/sign in is the same email address where you received the special link to register.
b) If you are a session chair/moderator or a speaker, you have been sent a special invitation to join as a panellist. To access you ticket, follow these steps:

3) LOG INTO THE ZOOM DESKTOP APPLICATION
On the day of the congress, sign into the Zoom desktop application using the same login information (email and password) used to log into Zoom to obtain your ticket. Once you log in the Zoom desktop application, you should see this:
After you log in, leave the desktop application running in the background and continue with step 4.
(4) ENTER THE CONGRESS LOBBY
Click on the Zoom Events congress page (https://bit.ly/3K5JFVm) and press the 'Join lobby' button.
*If instead, 'Join Lobby, you see 'Register', click on it, log in into your Zoom account and from there, click 'Join lobby'.
(5) NAVIGATING THE CONGRESS LOBBY
Once you are in the lobby, you will be able to see the full list of sessions and participate. To do so, click on the 'Session' in the left side menu.
In the session menu, locate the session(s) that you are part of or are interested in. You can also add them to your 'Itinerary' tab by selecting the little flag in the session window. *At the start of the session, the 'join' button in the session window will become clickable - then, simply click on it and enter the session.
*If you are a speaker or a chair/moderator, you will be able to enter your session 10 minutes before the session officially starts.

ACCOMODATIONS
The congress venue is near Shimizu Station, and it takes 5 min walk from the station to the venue. There are many hostels and B&B near Shimizu Station and Shizuoka Station for participants to choose from. Shizuoka Station is three stations away from Shimizu Station, and it takes about 12 min by the Tōkaidō Line from Shizuoka Station to Shimizu Station. 2022 International Year of Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA)
The United Nations General Assembly declared 2022 the International Year for Artisanal Fisheries and Aquaculture (IYAFA 2022). IYAFA aims to enhance understanding of, raise awareness, and support the contributions of small-scale and artisanal fisheries and aquaculture to sustainable development around the world; specifically their role in food security, nutrition provision, poverty eradication, and sustainable use of natural resources. IYAFA 2022 also aims to promote sharing and collaboration among small-scale fishers, fishworkers, fishfarmers, and stakeholders to support policy co-development.
The IYAFA Global Action Plan (GAP) promotes inclusive value chains, gender equity and equality, awareness and resilience to climate change and disasters, sustainable use of biodiversity, empowering fishers, building partnerships, and nourishing nations by, with, and for artisanal fisheries and aquaculture. These key messages are the foundation of IYAFA, and will help guide sustainable development in the years to come.
The 4th World Small-Scale Fisheries Congress series is part of IYAFA. We recognize and celebrate the billions of people whose lives and livelihoods are artisanal fisheries and aquaculture around the world.
